Mission Statement

Ultimate Vineyards is focused on providing a state of the art experience while producing distinctive,
handcrafted wines.

Vineyards

Ultimate Vineyards produces wines almost exclusively from its 75-Acre estate vineyard, where a unique combination of geological and topographical features deliver fruit with extraordinary intensity, weight and voluptuousness. The vineyard rests in the bed of the ancient Santa Margarita River, where sediments carried downstream have been accumulating for millennia. The vineyard also sits in a geological bowl, where heavy cooler air drifts and settles during the night, helping to retain higher acid and tannin in the grapes. Ample amounts of sunshine interspersed with gentle ocean breezes help develop deep color and sugars in the grapes. The soil is mostly sandy loam, consisting of excellent drainage but low organic matter due to the area’s low rainfall. With the goal of creating “Living Soils”, Ultimate Vineyards has been actively cultivating its soils with the use of annual organic compost amendments, inoculation of beneficial microbes and planting nitrogen-fixing cover-crops. The belief is that developing a flourishing, healthy ecosystem in the soil will allow for better vine growth, more even ripening and higher quality grapes. In order to attain this, Ultimate Vineyards never uses pesticides, herbicides or fungicides on its soils.

Champagne

The grapes are primarily used to produce almost all Champagne, but small amounts of Pinot blanc, Pinot gris, Arbane, and Petit Meslier are vinified as well.

Special Wine

These variations result from the complex interactions between the biochemical development of the grape, the reactions involved in fermentation, and the production process.

Blush Wine

Blush wines are actually made by using dark-skinned grapes, a little bit of skin contact for colour, and then fermenting that juice without skins just like a Vin Gris.

Desert Wine

Most fortified wines are regarded as distinct from dessert wines, but some of the less-strong fortified white wines, are regarded as honorary dessert wines.

Our Story

A large Victorian-Style Farmhouse, the Ultimate Vineyards is nestled amidst the rolling hills of the beautiful Temecula Valley. Established among the first vineyards planted in the region in 1968, Ultimate Vineyards is known in the Temecula Valley as one of the most inviting and warm Wine Country atmospheres.

Guests are invited to taste our award-winning fine wines while shopping for fabulous gift merchandise. Friends and family can also enjoy snacking on our Famous Baked Brie in Sourdough Bread with a bottle of wine on our lovely picnic grounds. Ultimate Vineyards is truly the atmosphere for a pleasurable wine experience.

The winery was originally founded by Budd and Maurice Van Roekel in 1986 and is among the first dozen wineries established in Temecula. We currently have over 70 acres of vines planted on this beautiful property located in the heart of Temecula Valley wine country. The Vineyard contains some of the valleys oldest vines originally planted in 1968.

We are best known for our outstanding white wines ranging from a dry Sauvignon Blanc that has won numerous awards to our current Platinum award winning Gewurztraminer among many others. We carry two different labels that serve to distinguish the styles of wine that we carry. The Ultimate Vineyards label is associated with the sweeter white, blush, and red wines. The Van Roekel Estate label is geared towards our dry whites and bold reds.

Between the two labels we produce over 27 types of wine; 12 whites, 6 sparkling, 10 reds, a Cream Sherry, and our 2005 Port that was voted the Best Wine in Southern California in 2016 by the American Wine Society.

A true icon for Temecula Valley wine country, Ultimate Vineyards is a heavenly experience not to be missed!

Red Wines

Red wine is a type of wine made from dark-colored grape varieties. The actual color of the wine can range from intense violet, typical of young wines, through to brick red for mature wines and brown for older red wines. The juice from most purple grapes is greenish-white, the red color coming from anthocyan pigments present in the skin of the grape; exceptions are the relatively uncommon teinturier varieties, which produce a red-colored juice.

White Wines

Among the many types of white wine, dry white wine is the most common. More or less aromatic and tangy, it is derived from the complete fermentation of the wort. Sweet wines, on the other hand, are produced by interrupting the fermentation before all the grape sugars are converted into alcohol; this is called Mutage or fortification. The methods of enriching wort with sugar are multiple: on-ripening on the vine, passerillage (straining), or the use of noble rot. Sparkling wines, which are mostly white, are wines where the carbon dioxide from the fermentation is kept dissolved in the wine and becomes gas when the bottle is opened.
